“My career in Film and Television design enabled me to travel extensively in Europe and the West Indies. During these projects I was able to draw and paint many of the locations. These works became studies of the light and atmosphere of the architecture and landscape in different parts of the world. Many of the original sketches and drawings have been converted into full paintings in my studio. This has given me the opportunity to use more complex painting methods to explore the visual and emotional memories through the use of colour, light and atmosphere. My current work explores the emotional response to interiors that are not occupied and yet have the mark of human presence.”

Mike Hall
A discerning and highly skilled painter, Mike Hall’s sun-dappled scenes radiate warmth and rustic elegance. Mike is an expert at painting French scenes, he likes to work with unoccupied spaces without human presence. He creates mood and atmosphere in his work by using the half tones and shadows caused by the evening and early morning light. He also uses the overhead light of midday to create a dazzling light on the roofs of houses, with a great contrast between light and shadow, adding a feeling of summer warmth.
